Im Rahmen des Projekts «Kaskade Barberine, Erhebliche Erneuerung» plant die SBB AG die Erneuerung von mehreren Kraftwerksanlagen. Das Kraftwerk Châtelard I liegt in der Ortschaft Le Châtelard der Gemeinde Finhaut im Kanton Wallis und wurde zwischen den Jahren 1919 und 1923 erbaut. Im Jahr 1972 wurde das Kraftwerk durch die Anlage Châtelard II erweitert. Das Kraftwerk dient primär der Bahnstromversorgung (16.7Hz) der Westschweiz und der Simplonlinie.
